The Theremin is unlike any other instrument in the world. Invented in 1920 by Soviet scientist Léon Theremin, it is played by moving the hands through two high-frequency electromagnetic fields: the vertical antenna controls pitch (closer = higher) and the horizontal loop controls volume (closer = quieter). This unique mechanism allows musicians to produce their signature ethereal, gliding, and often haunting sound literally out of thin air, making it a favorite for classic sci-fi and horror soun
