Animal conservation is a team effort and SeaWorld Rescue's recent rescue, rehabilitation, and return of a long-billed curlew is a perfect example. After being found entangled and rescued by our partners at San Diego Humane Society's Project Wildlife program, the bird was brought to SeaWorld where its wounds were treated, and it regained a healthy weight so that it could then be safely returned to the wild. Long-billed curlews are North America's largest shorebird. These distinctive birds can be found in North Dakota for about two months each year during nesting season. Because they are in decline across their range, researchers are capturing and fitting some of these birds with transmitters to learn more about their habitat use, migration and hopefully help determine what factors are driving the population loss.
