John Stanley was one of the leading English organists and composers of the late Baroque and early Classical period. He lost his sight as a child and developed an outstanding musical ear and memory. At age fourteen he became Organist of the Temple Church in London, which made him well known throughout England. His music is clear, melodic, and very useful in church settings.
