GRAY LADY DOWN (1978) starring Charlton Heston is a thriller about a U.S. Navy mission to save the crew of a submarine that sank after colliding with a freighter. Scenes were shot using USS Trout (SS-566) prior to the sub's transfer to the Imperial Iranian Navy. The Iranian crew later abandoned the Trout in Philadelphia following the Iranian Revolution in 1979. The U.S. regained custody of the Trout and then used the sub for training.
