Manx hip hop using traditional music & Gaelg... Frank Joughin, perhaps the Isle of Man's most exciting young fiddle player, is working on a new music project which we should all be very excited by! Frank explains more in this short interview, about why it will be something entirely new, and why it is important to push these boundaries. The grant for this project is being provided by Culture Vannin as a part of our celebration of Blein ny Gaelgey - Year of the Manx Language 2026: https://culturev

After being on the brink of extinction, the ancient language of Manx is experiencing a revival on the Isle of Man, thanks in part to the Bunscoill Ghaelgagh elementary school and some young students. https://nyti.ms/3ADbCB1 | The New York Times

"... The language reflects the ocean and the wind and the trees... it brings the Island into reality." A beautiful reflection on the connection between the Island, its language, and song, and why a new commission about the passing Manx seasons will impact on peoples lives in important ways. Dr Christa McCartney explains the new project she is undertaking with Coraaghyn yn Aile (part of the Isle of Man Fire and Folk Festivals (including Oie Voaldyn)). The grant for this project is being provided

** warning video contains bad language** A number of roads that were closed this morning due to 'treacherous' conditions are now open. The Mountain Road is the only remaining one that's closed. The Isle of Man Constabulary Media Page reported earlier that officers attended to numerous traffic collisions. This video have been shared with Manx Radio and has been circulating on groups | Manx Radio

A Manx version of 'Away in a Manger'... This is one of the audio tracks freely available online, created to accompany the book of 40 Manx Christmas songs, 'Nollick Ghennal.' The c.70 audio recordings include both spoken pronunciation guides and sung demonstrations, by Ruth Keggin Gell (who we hear here), Annie Kissack RBV and Aalin Clague. Together they allow anyone - individuals, friends, choirs or classrooms - to add a Manx song or two to their Nollick! The full set of 'Nollick Ghennal' record

A beautiful Manx song performed live on national radio... 'Sea Invocation' / 'Geay Jeh'n Aer' is one of the most beautiful of all traditional Manx songs. Collected by Mona Douglas in Ballaragh (close to Laxey), the song is an appeal for the singer's loved one to be returned safe from the sea. Here it is sung perfectly by Cristl, a young guest on one of the Manx language programmes on Manx Radio, Jamys Jeheiney, last week. Jamys Jeheiney is one of the many Manx language shows which can be enjoyed

Ireland recorded the Isle Of Man’s last native speakers of her Gaelic language Manx. The Manx language was dying out, with only a handful of elderly native speakers still alive in the late 1940s. A visit by DeValera, the Irish leader, resulted in recording equipment being bought and an Irish folklore collector sent to the Isle of Man with it in a recording van. He travelled to remote areas and recorded elderly people, probably born in the nineteenth century, whose mother tongue was Manx. Similar
