As a birthplace of kites, Weifang has a long history of kite making which boasts exquisite craftsmanship. In May 2006, Weifang kites were named on a national cultural heritage list. More than 70 percent of kites in the world are exported from Weifang. With the International Kite Federation headquartered in Weifang, the city has become the center of global kite culture exchange.
