The tears of a distraught pet owner turned to tears of joy when Casey Colvin found his beloved dog Oreo alive, after five days of searching for him amid the Los Angeles wildfires. Colvin was out at work when the blaze broke out and he was unable to get to his home in time.

Video footage of the reunion on Sunday shows the dog, sooty and dishevelled, suddenly emerging from a neighbour’s driveway, prompting Mr Colvin to scream: “You’re alive, you’re alive.” He appears overcome with emotion as Oreo leaps into his arms and he lifts the dog into the air.
