National Guard troops arrived in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday after being ordered into the city by President Trump in response to a weekend of violent clashes between law enforcement officers and protesters triggered by immigration enforcement operations in the area on Friday.

Protests over immigration raids in the Los Angeles area were expected to continue for a third day.

"We're going to have troops everywhere," he says when asked if he plans to send the military to Los Angeles.

Local law enforcement officials aren’t part of federal immigration enforcement operations, as many agencies have been quick to note.

Newsom, a Democrat, said in a post on the social platform X that it was “purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions.”
