Storms and flood threats are headed for the New York City area, prompting a string of First Alert Weather Days through the end of the work week. Heavy rain that may cause flooding is expected both Thursday and Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, the city can expect anywhere from 1.5 to 3 inches of rain due to a frontal system stalling above the region and bringing repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms. Other areas could see as much as 5 inches of rain by Friday, meteorologists said.

A Flood Watch is in effect for New York City due to heavy rains and potential thunderstorms, with up to two inches of rainfall expected across all boroughs.
