Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia has emerged as a doubt for their Club World Cup quarter-final tie against Palmeiras. However, the Blues could hand a debut to Joao Pedro. Pedro completed his £60m transfer from Brighton earlier in the week, and has been added to the Blues’ squad having been signed before the new registration deadline.

That’s not to say that Palmeiras are “easy” opposition. Not by any stretch. In fact, they have yet to lose at this tournament, getting draws against FC Porto and Inter Milan

Chelsea bounced back from their 3-1 defeat to Flamengo in their second group game by thrashing ES Tunis 3-0 in their final group clash. They have also beaten LAFC 2-0 in the competition. Enzo Maresca’s side then went on to beat Benfica 4-1 in the round of 16.
