More than 100 immigrants have been detained on U.S. soil and sent to the Guantanamo Bay detention facility in Cuba since President Donald Trump's crackdown on immigration began.

The men told NPR they were kept in the dark about why they were in Guantánamo Bay, and were denied access to an attorney or a phone call with loved ones.

Pete Hegseth, the defense secretary, arrived at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, on Tuesday where he was seen meeting and greeting the troops stationed there.

The base had been cleared of migrants since Thursday, after the government sent 177 to Venezuela and one back to the United States.

Many of the migrants were being kept in a detention facility that has historically held suspected terrorists. They were flown back to Venezuela Thursday after a stop in Honduras.

The administration flew almost all of the migrants it had held in the facility in Cuba to Honduras, and one to detention in the U.S., NBC News has learned.
