Families in Montgomery County have continued to express concern after a student was shot at Wootton High School on Monday.

MCPS to address some safety aspects within school, superintendent says; similar conversations followed 2022 shooting at Magruder High School

One person was shot Monday afternoon at Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville, Maryland, police say. The school was put on lockdown after the shooting happened inside the school about 2:15 p.m.,

In the wake of the Montgomery County high school shooting, Maryland House Republicans renewed their push for stricter school notification policies for when a student is arrested or suspected of certain crimes.

In response to the shooting , two community meetings will be held for Wootton families at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday at the school located at 2100 Wootton Parkway to “provide families with information about how today unfolded [and] the actions taken to support students and staff,” according to the letter.

A Montgomery County Court judge decided that the 16-year-old student accused of shooting a classmate at Wootton High School will remain in custody at an adult jail without bond. Kahylil
