First base umpire Hunter Wendelstedt was struck in the head by a foul ball hit by Mets center fielder Tyrone Taylor, forcing him to leave the game. Per Justin Tasch of the New York Post, Wendelstedt was "down to the ground for several minutes before he got to his feet and was assisted off the field."

MLB umpire Hunter Wendelstedt was able to walk off the field after taking a line drive to his head while working first base during Monday's game between the Minnesota Twins and New York Mets.

Pete Alonso made a throw to reliever Jose Butto, who beat Willi Castro to the bag. However, Wendelstedt called Castro safe and Butto expressed his frustration, which allowed Ryan Jeffers to score to put Minnesota up 3-0. Replay showed Castro was clearly out, but the Mets had used their challenge earlier in the game.
