Minnesota Governor Tim Walz says Melissa Hortman and her husband were shot and killed this morning in what appears to be a "politically motivated assassination".

Minnesota officials said they are searching for Vance Luther Boelter, who was last seen in the Twin Cities area.

Former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her her husband were killed in a violent attack, while Sen. Hoffman and his wife are expected to survive.

Another state legislator and his wife were also shot in the predawn hours in brazen attacks that officials called “politically motivated.”

Even as the national political discourse has grown hyperpartisan in recent years, Minnesota had kept a foothold on its own traditions.

The Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Lynx paid tribute to the state politicians and their spouses who were shot by a suspect allegedly impersonating a police officer overnight.

The station said that Harris Jr. and Kamara were each charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and one count of dangerous weapons-drive by shooting. Kaigboyah was charged with helping an offender avoid arrest.

A man wanted in connection with a shooting incident that took place in a Franklin parking lot Friday night has been arrested and charged, officials said.
