A group of Houston Independent School District parents and students are planning a sick out to protest the Texas Education Agency's takeover of HISD.

Houston ISD parents are protesting the school district by planning a district-wide sick out to demonstrate their opposition to the district's takeover of HISD. FOX 26's Jade Flury has more on what parents are saying.

As many as 3,000 students are expected to miss school on Wednesday in protest of the district's state-appointed board of managers and superintendent.

The advocacy group Community Voices for Public Education is asking students to stay home Wednesday to protest Houston ISD's state-appointed Superintendent Mike Miles' policies, according to a Monday statement by the group.
