There are more than 1,000 people in Colorado who say they were sexually assaulted, have proof and want their attackers arrested, but can't. It's the state's fault.

After an internal investigation began looking into the previous work of a now-charged former Colorado Bureau of Investigation forensic scientist, the agency says it is now publicly tracking DNA testing backlogs.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation will have another year to spend $3 million earmarked for the processing of sexual assault forensic exams after lawmakers set more transparency measures for how it works through the backlog of more than 1,400 kits.
