Nebraska is making history in the sports world. Makena Cook has become the first female athlete to receive a Division I Power Four flag football offer. Coach Matt Rhule extended the offer to the California native.
The University of Nebraska announced plans to add women’s flag football on Friday, making it the first athletic department in a Power 4 conference to introduce the sport. The announcement coincided with the NCAA’s approval to label flag football as an emerging sport for women at the intercollegiate level.
Cook plays quarterback at Orange Lutheran and has thrown for 13,694 passing yards with 215 touchdowns to just 32 interceptions in 49 career games across two seasons.
