Donations for Congregation Beth El in Rutherford have exceeded $233,000 as of Aug. 11, according to an online fundraising page created after the Aug. 8 fire. The blaze reduced the building to rubble and displaced Rabbi Yitzchok Lerman and his family, who lived in an apartment inside the synagogue.

Congregation Beth El on Montross Avenue has been part of the Rutherford, N.J. community for more than 100 years.

The congregation has been at the location since the early 1950s and it was the target of an arson attack 10 years ago.
