A Russian citizen was released as part of an exchange involving American teacher Marc Fogel and will return to Russia soon, the Kremlin said, following intensified negotiations between Moscow and Washington.

Fogel was sentenced to 14 years in prison in Russia, which the U.S. has condemned as a wrongful detention, after a small amount of medical cannabis was found in his luggage.

The Kremlin says that a Russian citizen has been freed in the United States in exchange for Moscow’s release of American Marc Fogel.
