A winter storm is currently moving into Mississippi and roads in some areas may become impassible and numerous extended power outages are expected.
Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves confirmed via a social media statement Monday, Jan. 26, that the winter storm caused the two deaths. Reeves also stated two injuries have been reported, one in Hinds County and another in Smith County. Both injuries were due to the storm, the governor stated.
The forecasts had predicted that the storm could be among the worst in a generation to hit the region. By Monday, it was clear that is exactly what happened.
