Speaking for the first time since a 2024 season that saw him lose his job as the Atlanta Falcons’ starting quarterback, Kirk Cousins said he accepted the “reality” of his current backup role while acknowledging he would “love” to start for an NFL team.
Cousins will enter the season as the backup behind Michael Penix Jr. Peter Schrager of ESPN shuts down any rumor that he will be traded.
“Obviously, you would love to play ,” Cousins said, via Tori McElhaney of the team’s website. “But I am not going to dwell on things that are not reality. That’s not the situation I am in. So, it’s better spent to be focused on the situation I am in, controlling what you can control. I think that is the right mindset to have.”
