Thousands of new hockey fans are packing into watch parties across Broward County for Florida Panthers playoff games — but things weren't always so rosy for the franchise.

Cherry was right about the start and the final result, as the Panthers overwhelmed the Edmonton Oilers in a 6–1 win Monday, taking a 2–1 lead in the series. Edmonton committed 21 penalties, including 16 in the third period alone, leading to a total of 85 penalty minutes—the highest in a Cup Final game since 1986.

The Panthers have had three consecutive trips to the Stanley Cup Final following a three-year run to the Final by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
