Women's heavyweight boxing champion Claressa Shields denied ever consuming marijuana in response to her suspension for a positive test for the drug.

Shields' promoter, Dmitriy Salita, issued a statement Friday saying Shields has "an unwavering commitment to clean competition," and said he is "100% confident" Shields will be vindicated amid news that she has been suspended in Michigan after testing positive for marijuana after a fight in Flint earlier this month.

The Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission suspended Claressa Shields after an “oral fluid sample” showed the presence of marijuana.

Shields was suspended by the Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission on Thursday and was issued a related “show cause notice” by the WBO after the commission accused Shields of testing positive for marijuana following her win over Danielle Perkins on February 2 in her hometown of Flint.
