Cargill Inc. will shutter a turkey-processing plant in Arkansas, cutting about 1,100 jobs amid a downturn in both turkey and the broader agricultural sector.

"We need to find these Cargill people jobs and that's what we'll be working on," Springdale Chamber President Bill Rogers said.

The Springdale Chamber of Commerce said in a statement that the closure of the live turkey production plant will affect close to 1,000 employees, their families, and the broader Springdale community.

Cargill's spokesperson said this is the right move to make for the future of the company's turkey business.
