DHAKA (Reuters) -Bangladesh interim leader Muhammad Yunus said on Tuesday he would ask the election commission to hold a national election next February.

Bangladesh ’s interim leader announced Tuesday that the parliamentary election will be in February, as the country marked a year since a student-led uprising led to the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The anniversary culminated with Yunus, the 85-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate presiding over Bangladesh’s democratic overhaul, announcing that he would write to the chief election commissioner requesting that national elections be arranged before Ramadan in February.
