An Air India plane crashed into a medical college in Ahmedabad, killing people on the ground and leaving a sole survivor on the flight. Authorities said 269 died.

The death toll in the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash has increased to 274, after salvage teams found 29 additional bodies on Friday. This includes 241 passengers and crew onboard, and 33 victims who were on the ground when the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into the BJ Medical College campus.

India’s aviation regulator DGCA has mandated enhanced safety inspections for Air India’s entire Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 fleet to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

President Donald Trump swiftly addressed the incident, calling it “terrible” and “one of the worst in aviation history.” He said the US was ready to provide any necessary assistance, stating, “Anything we can do, we’ll be over there immediately.”

AHMEDABAD, India >> The investigation into the Air India plane crash that killed more than 240 people is focusing on the engine, flaps and landing gear, a source said on Friday, as the aviation regulator ordered safety checks on the airline’s entire Boeing-787 fleet.
