Hamlin was third on the final caution — a spinout by Kyle Larson that ruined the victory chances of Ryan Blaney, who had just passed for the lead with three laps remaining — entering the pits and got out in first. He chose the outside lane and burst forward on the restart, never challenged for the victory.

Denny Hamlin made the most of a clutch final pit stop and nailed the overtime restart to grab the win in Sunday’s Goodyear 400.

Denny Hamlin finished 0.597-second ahead of William Byron at Darlington on Sunda. The win was Hamlin's 56th in the NASCAR Cup Series, and broke break the tie with Rusty Wallace for 11th on NASCAR’s all-time Cup victory list.
